How PowerBI can revolutionise data quality and decision-making in a medium-sized company

In today's digitized business world, a reliable data foundation is critical to a company's success. A fast-growing mid-sized company faced the challenge that its ERP system was not yet fully implemented, resulting in poor data quality and an insufficient basis for strategic decisions. Despite the ERP system being in place, it was not being used consistently, which further exacerbated the situation.

Steps to implement the requirements in project management and structuring

The main task was to improve the quality of the financial data and identify the sources of errors in the system.

Intero Consulting took over the project management and structuring and took the following steps to implement the requirements:

 

  1. System review and identification of weak points: the existing ERP system was subjected to a thorough review in order to identify and eliminate weak points.
  2. Handling the increasing volume of data by moving to the cloud: In order to handle the increasing volume of data and ensure better scalability, the decision was made to move to the cloud.
  3. Review of data quality and data allocation: A comprehensive review of data quality and its allocation in the system was carried out.
  4. Definition of KPIs and discussion about the introduction of sensor technology in the production process: Key performance indicators (KPIs) were defined to measure the company's performance. The introduction of sensor technology in the production process was also discussed in order to open up additional data sources.
  5. Accompanying the system introduction with targeted training and documentation: A training session was held for all employees to explain the importance of the ERP system. At the same time, comprehensive documentation was created to ensure the correct use of the system.

Intero Consultings Successes of the implementation of PowerBI

The following successes were achieved through the implementation of PowerBI:

 

  1. High data quality: data quality was significantly improved, resulting in a more reliable data basis for decisions.
  2. Process acceleration to real-time data: The use of PowerBI enabled real-time data to be generated, speeding up decisions by up to three months.
  3. Timely tax transparency: Management gained timely insight into the company's performance, resulting in improved tax transparency.
  4. Reduced staff workload: The automation of processes through PowerBI reduced the workload of staff for repetitive tasks. This made it possible to allocate staff to more demanding tasks.

Through PowerBI, the data was presented in a visually appealing way, both in relation to the previous state of low data quality and the current improved state. Graphs and charts showed the error details and input points, leading to a better understanding of the data and what it meant to the business.

The introduction of PowerBI enabled the company to use its data more effectively and was instrumental in improving decision making and performance.
