We have been awarded!

We are delighted to have received two awards in WirtschaftsWoche's "Best of Consulting Mittelstand 2022" award: Intero Consulting was awarded 2nd place in the Technologies (Software Asset Management) category! In the field of Finance (IT Compliance) we were awarded 3rd place! On this page we present our winning projects in the individual categories.

Technologies: Software Asset Mgmt. Transformation project awarded 2nd place

Software asset management is being reorganised at one of Germany's largest telecommunications groups. The focus here is on an agile transformation in terms of role concept, working methods and collaboration.

All of this is to be implemented in the context of the largest IT infrastructure transformation project in the company's history.

  • Challenges

    The project team faces the following challenges in the overall context:

    • Global cutting-edge transformation of the customer's IT landscape to realise unique growth towards an omni-channel cloud environment
    • Merging the IT organisations of the two group divisions Network Technology and ST Service Technology
    • Data management in various sources SAM tool, CMDB, various Excel tables of the licence managers and other sources with often contradictory content
    • Breaking up the previous classic organisational structure of software asset management and the previous waterfall project setups requires a rethink by the entire team and the conviction of management and external stakeholders
  • Support service Intero Consulting
    • The development of new roles with a view to a high degree of agility, in particular the introduction of the cross-functional role of an Internal Licence Compliance Auditor (ILCA)
    • Implementation of dedicated portfolio management for cost optimisation & organisational/team development
    • Increasing performance to realise the very ambitious savings targets
    • The agile transformation, including the go-live of the new roles and processes, was implemented under the full load of day-to-day business and the additional burden of one of the largest IT transformation projects in the company's history
  • Successes
    • Reorganisation of software asset management with more than 20 employees, including definition and implementation of new roles
    • Reduction of software costs (Opex and Capex) through licence negotiations in new procurement and various cost cutting initiatives  
    • Introduction of a new software demand process as the basis for future cost control and cost reduction
    • Improvement of cost transparency and data quality in the area of software through cost categorisation and optimisation of SAM tool deployment  
    • Improvement of licence compliance through the introduction of SAM KPIs incl. automated SAM KPI Cockpit (on PowerBI)

    In addition to winning the Best in Consulting Award for Intero, the client also won the Jury Award at SAMS 2022 (Software Asset Management Strategy Congress) in the Overall SAM Project category.

Finance: IT compliance project with leading insurance company takes 3rd place

A leading German insurance company shows a low compliance value in the first audit following the introduction of an updated and greatly expanded internal set of rules for IT, information security and information risk management.

Project aims to introduce a formalised IT process landscape to ensure sustainable compliance in the future.

  • Challenges

    Various challenges need to be overcome:

    • Lack of governance processes (e.g. overarching controls to manage and ensure compliance of the IT landscape), incomplete demand, project and life cycle processes
    • High number of stakeholders with different interests and overlapping of various control functions
    • Growing demands on limited internal resources
    • High number of open findings from internal and external audits
    • Insufficient data quality for provider management and interfaces between business and IT
    • Simultaneous global project to completely outsource IT services (to a shared service provider) - extensive change to the IT operating model

    In an agile project setting, Intero Consulting supports all steps from an initial requirements analysis for the collection, evaluation and structuring of internal and external requirements to the introduction of a tool-supported solution for the standardisation, classification and implementation of processes and requirements in the IT management environment.

  • Successes
    • Closure of all internal and external audit findings
    • Creation of transparency and awareness for IT compliance guidelines and responsibilities through a central information hub for all stakeholders
    • Design and operationalisation of a holistic IT management framework consisting of a trinity of modular governance, demand and business service lifecycle processes
    • High degree of automation through a tool-based solution including performance dashboards for process monitoring as a basis for management decisions and reporting.

Background to the award

The "Best of Consulting Mittelstand" award is presented every year by WirtschaftsWoche. The best client projects from various consultancies are assessed by a scientific advisory board and a jury. The prizes are awarded depending on the turnover of the company and the segment (e.g. operations, marketing, sustainability). Further information on the award can be found here.
